Introduction

This service converts a copy of a two-person WhatsApp conversation into a colour-coded html file with images shown inline. You can save that in your archives or "print" it as a PDF file.

Procedure

  1. Export the two-person WhatsApp conversation, opting to include media files in the export. If you don't know how then search WhatsApp's FAQ for "how to export chat" for instructions.
  2. Unpack the exported zip file into a new directory named att on your computer. Have att itself directly contains the .txt file and attachments. They mustn't be in some subdirectory of att.
  3. Create and give me a zip file that contains only the .txt file and any .vcf attachments. I especially do not need (large) video files or image files. Create the zip file to not have any folder structure but to contain the specified files directly in its top level.
  4. I will return a colour-coded html file to you. Your browser may automatically save this in your downloads directory without telling you, so look there.
  5. Rename the file to have a .html extension. Other than that, name it whatever you please.
  6. Move it into the parent directory of att, i.e. into the directory containing att, not into att itself.
  7. Open the html file in a web browser verifying that images appear inline. If they don't then your att directory is likely named incorrectly or positioned incorrectly relative to the html file or is missing some of its original contents.
  8. You can then print to PDF if your browser has that ability.
  9. You can also store the html file and att in your archives or zip them up and give the resulting zip file to somebody else.

Operations Panel

You may submit your zip file to me as per step 3. I will respond after a moment, as per step 4.
